CAREER WORKSHOP - 16 OCT 2008
The Career Workshop is a crash course designed to help one refine interviewing skills. I walked away with a greater understanding of how an interview typically involves and what is expected of me. We also discussed various methods in how one can present oneself in a way to where the employer would want to hire. One method which is now a particular favorite is Power Statements. This includes a short attention catching phrase: "I am... or I can..." Then within less than three to five sentences a strength is illustrated and how it resolved a problem.
VISION CONFERENCE - 25 OCT 2008
The conference helped me to better appreciate the future of BYU-Idaho and my responsibility to do my very best. Some of the key insights I gained are:
1. Communication within a team is crucial. We were involved in a number of challenges which we needed to work together in order to accomplish.
2. Patience with myself and others was a lesson learned. No one is perfect and I was able to recognize that I cannot do everything perfectly as well as a teammate.
3. Lastly, I have taken to heart Gordon B. Hinckley's words to the BYUI students, "There is no end is sight of the good that you can do!"
